UrWarrens, Session 3

Last month we played the third game in our new Paragon-level adventure, UrWarrens in my notes, King of the TrollHaunt Warrens by Wizards of the Coast in its original form. This week, Zach provided the text, and Anthony took the pictures. Thanks!

We start in the middle of battle with the troglodytes. Motul charges into the next chamber, extending the battle, and kills a trog with one blow before exploding toward another. The party attacks into the room while Edgar moves to the eastern door and does his best Magneto impression. The enemies react, but not before a dino charges straight into Edgar's blow which kills him dead. Stupid dino.

Motul charged up a wall at the Stink Draconid, pounding him repeatedly and learning he does not react well to cold. Pet dinos attempt to save him but Motul is unimpressed. Edgar holds the door while Varin and Hermiad try to avoid becoming javelin pincushions. Varin teleports amidst five guys and then mind controls two of them into attacking their friends. Hermiad uses complicated footwork to feint in and out of a big group of guys, turns on his crazy Predator armor, and then whiffs completely. Hermiad was heard to express his displeasure in elven fashion. The Stinkonid tried to pull back and blast Motul but the barbarian's magic pants allowed him to follow and attack, killing him in the process before whirling at another dinosaur. At this point the nearby skull pyramids burst alight with green flaming skull that blows fire over Motul, burning him terribly. Chrym can't get to Motul to help him so he punches a big dino in the face which knocks it back. Edgar follows, beating the stuffing out of it. Mendas explodes a cloud of daggers at six guys and kills three.

This all devolved into a series of pitched battles between dinosaurs, troglodytes, and draconids throughout three separate rooms. Amidst all this there were multiple wild drakes wandering around the caves, looking for anybody to provide an opening for a quick snack. These became roving traps with a hunger that could not be sated. The trick was to stay out of their path or to look the least appetizing. Eventually Oddny realized she could tame them and order them to attack the troglodytes, who were apparently tastier than us. (Brian's note: There was only one drake, actually... this was an idea I got off some podcast, an unaligned monster that could be added to either side. This was played like a terrain power, so the players could make Nature checks to give the drake actions).

Motul quickly determined he couldn't harm the flying green skulls because they could fly out of his range, so he went to grab help from Chrym, Hermiad, and Varin and their ranged weapons. The three of them rotated out between hiding behind cover and whacking the skulls with ranged attacks, repeatedly wearing them down. Edgar managed to serve as the perfect gatekeeper, keeping little dinos out and big dinos in. Oddny, Eric, and Mendas whittled down clumped up groups of troglodytes and eventually offed their katana-wielding draconid leader. Finally Edgar rushed a lone javelin-hurling trog on a precipice, pushed him off the edge, and rode him down like a boogie-board. He stuck the landing, and by this I mean he drove his sword through the trog on the point of impact.

Meanwhile, amidst a frenzy of battlerage, Motul charged into another room which was full of nine draconid fighters who all looked over at him with some degree of surprise. With the rest of the battles winding up elsewhere, we left off with a room full of fresh draconids ready to answer a nearly exhausted party...
